How Did Your Tomatoes Do This Summer?

Tami G is a bit larger and not quite as sweet as the other two. I probably will not grow that variety again.

How Did Your Tomatoes Do This Summer?

My cherry tomatoes never make it into the house - I eat them in the garden. This ear I grew three varieties - Super Sweet 100s, Tami G, and Sun Gold. I liked the flavor of the Sun Gold the best. The Super Sweet 100s always come up on their own.

Do You Feel Safe leaving Your Crockpot On While You Are Not Home?

The reason I have a crockpot is so that I can cook something without being there or having to watch it. Statistically, I have a feeling that it is more dangerous to drive to the store than leave your crockpot on while you are away from home.

Has Anyone Had A Streak of Bad Luck Lately?

Let's see - Hubby's truck stopped in the middle of the road and had to be towed home and ice maker quit working. I think it has something to do with the "dog days of summer."

    Eggplant

Congratulations! I had two plants survive and they are growing well now, so hope to have some eggplant before the first frost. It has been good this year as not everything has ripened at once. I am still getting squash and cucumbers. A new cucumber plant came up in my compost pile, so will have...

    Eggplant

Amber, Frequently, I do not get many eggplants until mid to late August or September. Your plant is healthy looking, so you should get some eventually.

    NEW HERE

Amber and I are both from North Carolina as well. I live in the middle of nowhere between Durham and Danville and Amber is in the Raleigh area. Guess us North Carolinians love our crockpots! I mostly use mine in the winter as well, although I recently stewed a bunch of yellow squash in my...

    Eggplant

That explains why everyone around you is picking tomatoes already. You are in a warmer area. We are usually eight to ten degrees cooler here than where you are.

    Eggplant

Amber, I live in North Carolina also! I am out in the middle of nowhere north of Durham, about 20 miles from the Virginia border. We have many trees, so my ground takes awhile to warm in the spring, so many of my veggies are later than others around me. This can be discouraging, but I am happy...

Do you like to grow fresh or use store bought herbs for cooking?

I do not think your cat would bother your herbs. And they should not make him sick. Some internet research provided the following list of unsafe herbs: pennyroyal, tea tree oil, comfrey, white willow bark, ma huang (ephedra), wormwood, yucca, and garlic. Most of us grow basil, oregano, sage, and...

    Eggplant

I curious as to what state you live in. I have not had many red tomatoes yet - just enough to keep me from needing to purchase them at the store. I grew a green bean called "Pickin' and Grinnin'" that I got from Henry Fields. I have always heard of people picking green beans by the handful, but...

    Eggplant

Amber, My plants are looking much better. One has three blossoms. The others have a way to go before they will bloom. I am picking squash and tomatoes. Fixed fried green tomatoes for Hubby yesterday evening. I grilled squash on skewers with tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms. They were yummy. I am...

Coffee Grounds: How And Why We Use Them In Our Garden

Did some of my favorite internet researching. Egg shells provide calcium and help prevent blossom end rot on tomatoes. They are also good for squash. crush them first to speed decomposition. Additionally, eggshells can be put in a compost pile to add additional calcium.
