Crockpot Kettle Popcorn

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Place 2-3 kernels in the pot, when they pop, add the sugar and give the crock pot a little shake.
  3. We have found the trick here is to get the sugar to mix and melt with the oil before adding the kernels.
  4. The sugar will start to melt in about 15-20 seconds. Keep a close eye on it.
  5. When nicely mixed and just about completely melted, add the popcorn and cover.
Once the popping begins, about every 3 to 5 seconds, lift the crock pot from the heat just a tiny bit and give it a good shake, then place back on the heat and repeat this process. You are trying to keep the popping going without the bottom of the crock pot becoming stagnate and you are also shaking the kernels to stay at the bottom of the crock pot in order to pop.
When the popping stops (about 5 seconds of no popping) go ahead and pour into a bowl, sprinkle in a bit of salt and enjoy the tasty goodness.
